big birds in the foothills

got some cool bird pics yesterday with the bigma out in what I'll be calling, "the middle of nowhere" (it's a secret)... to see the bird gallery, click here.

first a turkey vulture...

Then a hawk. I believe this is a red shouldered hawk, but I'm not sure... is there an ornithologist in the crowd? (edit: indeed an ornithologist (well at least a very knowledgeable individual, I don't know if she has a degree in birds) has spoken up to tell me that this is a Red-Tailed Hawk - Thanks Traci. see her comment here.)

Fire...

You may have guessed from the domain name here, but I spend my summer chasing wildland fires. Once in a while I even get a chance to shoot 'em... Here's a couple from the Deep Draw fire this summer in Montana. There wasn't much work for the light helicopter I was flying there, so I got to hang out with my camera, and watch the show.

Adorama is running their third 100 Photography Tips in 100 Days series of articles. Looking through their older series articles I picked out a few highlights...I don't know what they have in store in this series, but if you're looking to change up your photography, you might get some worthwhile hints from the current or past series. Check it out.
